|Vegas trip - tournament edition

Just got back yesterday, a lot of memories and experiences, i will split my posts about it into few groups.|
I played 4 tournaments in Vegas.
On the first day i overslept and missed the Binion classic one, but on the next day i got myself together and took a cab to the downtown to the hotel that was once the biggest poker room in town, hosting the WSOP.Those days are long gone now, the room looks pretty cheap, and the atmosphere matches the looks, although from outside it still looks great.
I played at the 200$ buyin tourney.
1st hand i pick up QQ in SB.170000 limpers, with 25-50 blinds (5k original stack), so i make it 400 to go.One ugly overweight latino kid with the turned sideways cap calls.Flop comes JJT, i bet close to pot, he calls.I checked the turn, thinking he either has a Jack or i am way ahead. He check behind.River is a 7, i check again and he fired almost the pot.I called and got shown 78o.Nice 4 outer, buddy.Great preflop call either.
4 hands later, he limps, and everyone folds to me.I look at KJ and make it 250 to go, only he calls.Flop comes J high with 2 hearts and he check raises me allin.I thought for about 2 minutes and this douchebag even called the clock on me.I finally figured that judging from the previous hand, i probably have him outkicked or he is on a flush draw and call.He flips over JTo and says nice hand. The T was a heart though....Well, you can guess the rest.Running hearts and i lasted about 5 minutes in my first ever Vegas tourney.
I have registered for 2 1500$ events so far and the 1st one came at june 16th at the lovely Rio
It's the world series of poker, baby
I arrive about 15 minuts ahead of time and the 1st to sit down.No familiar names at my table.3k starting stack, blinds are 25-50.The game is pretty passive, everybody is measuring the opponents. My first big decision came after the UTG older gentlemen who never raised before, made a raise and a player before me who also wasn't very active so far, reraised. After thinking for a minute or so, i mucked AKo on the button.
An hour passed, tables started to break and few very loose players arrived at our table. One hand that stuck to me is raise preflop, 2 callers.K high flop with 2 clubs, preflop raiser cbets, both players call.Turn is a blank, pf raises fires a big shell again, one caller, the second guy thought for 3 minutes, had a clock called on him and couldn't make up his mind with his hand declared dead.River blanked, pf raiser went allin, the caller INSTAcalled with KJ.The 3rd guy said he had him and that he had KT.OMFG!!!!!!!!
I never got anything going.Once i raised with AQ and the flop came the beautiful TJK.I cbet and got a call.Turn was another T and there was also a fd, so i bet again and the same KJ guy grimaced, and mucked K face up.I am sure he had something like K6s, i can't imagine him lay down KJ or even AK.
Our table broke and i was moved.Nothing really happened, i stole the blinds a few times, once BB had a walk before he even looked at his cards at turned over AA.On the break in the long line to the bathroom one guy was telling his friend that Jennifer Tilly was on his table...
I got moved again and a few minutes later Alex Jacob gets to my table. He is the table captain from the start, playing very aggresive and well.People seem to just give him chips too, on one hand, he called a preflop raise in BB, flop came K9T, and he c/r the preflop raiser, who caller.Turn blanked, Alex checked, pf raiser bet, Alex thought for a long time ,pushed allin and was instacalled. He was upset and said "Damn, i knew it, QJ, right?".Dude flips over K7, drawing dead to a chop.He had a pretty big stack too.Amazing.
The blinds started to rise and i started to get more aggro.Once i limp-shoved 44 UTG.Then reraised an MP raiser with A7o and bought the pot on the flop. Then i had AJo, pretty active player raises, i shove, he folds.Next hand i get AcQc, same player raises, i go over the top again, thinking, that now he might call me with a worse hand and i am even willing to take a flip at this point cause my M is about 7-8 at best.Alex Jacob starts asking how much we both have and finally calls my allin. The original raiser is shocked and says that he has to be beat.He folds AK of hearts face up (very good fold by him).AJ has Kings and i am in horrible shape. But wait, the flop is 337 with 2 clubs! One time?
Nope, turn blanks and the tiver is the case K, to give him a boat and to knock me out...
2 days later my buddy came to vegas and we played together in the Binion Classic 200$ 6handed event.I played really well (he busted pretty quick) and got down to 16 players from about 250.
Memorable hands include:
I raise TT on the button, BB thinks and just calls.Flop comes 36J with 2 spades. He checks, i bet, he calls.I don't remember the blinds, but the call was for about 30% of his stack already.Turn comes a 3 and he declares allin.Again, i studied for a few minutes and just couldn't put him on a hand that beats me.I was pretty aggressive at the table and he might think that i raise with any 2 on the button (which is close to the truth 6handed).His flop call puzzled me, but that could be any number of draws or underpair. With a jack i felt that he would just check-raise the flop. With a bigger pair (unless it's AA), i was positive he'd reraise preflop. His allin was basically my allin. Finally i called and he had 99.Ship!
Later, we are all in the money, aggressive old guy reraises my BB (everyone folded to his SB) to 9500 (1.5-3k blinds). The amount of the raise and the fact that he was stealing a lot made my decision easier, i didn't care that i had 35o, i declared allin and he folded in disgust.
Funny story: i got redrawn to a new table, i am at SB, everybody folds, i look at J2o and decide to fold and show to establish a tighter image for later, saying "You know what, buddy?I am gonna be generous and friendly here, you are getting a walk".BB flips over KK in disgust:))
I played pretty well, was focused, agressive in the times of need, but not too agressive to be reckless.Anyway, i was about 3rd or 4th in chips when this happened.I raise A4o UTG and stole the blinds and antes.Next hand i pick up AK of clubs, i raise again and felt certain that the table chip leader will defend his BB.Sure enough, he reraises.Everybody folds and i insatshove allin. He looks sick and starts calculating pot odds, saying "I can't believe i am gonna go from the chip leader to a shortstack" (He had about 110k, i had close to 80).I say to him "I have a huge hand, i'll show you".He nods, but says he is too commited to fold.He calls and i flip over the cards. He sadly confirms "You do have a huge hand" and tables KJo.Flop QQ2.Turn J.I am out 16th, for the mighty 475$ payoff...If i win the pot, i am a big chipleader.1st place was 10k....Pretty disgusting.
About 2 days after that, we decide to play the Venetian deep stack 550$ tourney.
We arrive close to start of the tournament, so we are both alternates number 4 and 6 (there were like 170 alternates overall) and are seated pretty quickly. To my right is a guy with a huge "No limit hold'em" tatoo, that includes 2 red aces.I ask him about it and he says, that's the only way he is ever getting AA.I start off pretty well, once flopping trips from SB and having KK and AA hold up in medium size pots.My squeeze with A4s on an aggro player fails miserably though since he moves allin.I move to another table, limp a few times and miss the flop (the blinds are still small ) and then my tourney turns around after the following hand.
I have AJo in Sb, everyone folds to the button who suddenly limps.I am not sure what to make of this and i don't know the bb yet, so i decide to take a flop.
8TQ and a double gutshot. That flop could hit many hands and my position is bad, so i check and wait to see how the button reacts.BB bets out and button folds.I call.Turn is another T which is a beatiful card for me to represent.BB can't call unless he has a T himself and he is going to fold any Q almost for sure.I check, he bets close to pot and i check raise him allin(about potsized bet more for him to call) to which he instafolds.
Few hands later i reraise a shortstack with JJ, he folds and shows 88.
Then i call the BB after 2 limpers with 44 and the button minraises.Everybody calls.Flop is a beautiful 34K, Bb shoves allin overbettin the pot. It's folded to me and i start hollywooding pretending i have a tough decision to make trying to trap the button into a call. Finally i call and button folds.BB has 25 and my hand holds up.
After that someone busted and i raised UTG with AJo (only BB was in, no SB), which was a mistake.I gave the players too much credit thinking they'd fold the BB and antes to me figuring i had to raise with a monster UTG in such scenario. But very loose MP calls me.He had the most amazing luck so far.Called a big raise pf with 5s8s and flopped 467, 2 spades, other guy had KK.Then, when i raised the button with JhTh, both he and BB called, flop came 2d3d5x, he checked, BB moced allin, i folded and he beat him into the pot showing Ad4d.WOW.
So, anyway, he calls, flop comes rags as usual, i bet , he calls.By that time i had about potsized bet left.Turn is a blank and i tank, deciding whether i should shove representing a big overpair.Suddenlt he acts out of turn saying allin. This is binding, so i can't go allin myself since he would be forced to call and i fold.He says he had 99.I never had anything going past that point and the blinds kept getting bigger and bigger.
I had about 17k keft and the blinds were 1k and 2k with 200 ante.
I move to a new table and the same 99 guy is drawn to me left now.We talk a bit, he is saying, i'll be back to the game soon, i am a good player etc etc.We introduce ourself to each other, he is apparently from Puerto Rico, big dude covered with tatooes, looking like a biker somewhat.I am desperate and soon i am in the BB and i look at AQo.Allin time, baby.I am called in 2 spots, they check it down and the river is an A.One guys is upset, shouting "damn" i let you get there", tabling 77.Another guy shows AQ as well and we split the 77's money.
2 hands after that i get 77 OTB, everyone folds, i shove an pick up the blinds an antes.Suddenly,i have 30k.I show the 77 to the table.
It's the last hand before dinner break.I squeeze out 2 aces.AdAs.Oh, baby...Early position raises.Ding dong!
I instashove, like i did the last time, representing low pp again. Our tatooed friend is thinking about something. He is playing with chips.I pray "please call!!!".Finally he says, "i'll gamble with you" and calls. The other guy calls as well!!
I table AA and the first guy shakes his head in disbelief and shows AK."biker" has QdJd.Are you serious?
100k pot.8 hours of play, about 100 players left out of ~600.Flop is dealt.I quietly wisper "Oh my god".It's 5d4d7x.Turn is 4x, i shout "hold one time, don't do it to me".River is a diamond.I feel like i was just shot in the face. The Puerto Rican fellow is screaming, high fiving his buddies.I am stunned and angry.I flip over the chair, grab my bag and walk away.My friend saw the whole thing, he tryes to comfort me, but i am too upset to talk to him.I exit the Venetian and just wonder aimlessly through the scorching Vegas Strip. Finally, i catch a cab, drive to my hotel, get under the sheets, order pizza from a room service and lie in bed all night, watching TV.
Next day i cancel my second WSOP event registartion and take back the 1500$.I swear not to play any tournaments again any time soon.
2 days later i meet the guy in Rio.His name is Jose Trapote. He apologises for that beat, points at me to his buddy, telling him, "that's the guy with aces i told you about" and says, that this pot changed his whole tournament. He won it for 75000$ payday....Lol donkaments...
